Jurors returned a verdict of guilty on all counts in the trial of Antonieo George Smith. Smith was charged with Second degree murder, Attempted Second degree murder, Aggravated Burglary and Armed Robbery.
On May 16, 2016, the defendant Antonieo George Smith, age 17 at the time, entered the residence of victims, Robert and Rita Anderson, without authorization and armed himself with a knife. Upon encountering Rita Anderson, as she entered her home from the grocery store, Smith stabbed her numerous times. Smith then ran outside and attacked Robert Anderson, stabbing him several times. Smith then fled in the Andersons vehicle, and after wrecking the vehicle, was apprehended by law enforcement. Mr. Anderson died as a result of his injuries he sustained in the attack.
Detective Beth McGee with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s department was the lead detective.
Assistant District Attorneys Rick Bryant and Denisse Parrales prosecuted the defendant for the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office. Judge David Ritchie presided over the case.
Sentencing will be set a later date.
