On Friday, June 11, Michael Thomas, 54, Lake Charles, was found guilty as charged of one (1) count second degree murder; and one (1) count attempted second degree murder. On August 6, Judge Guidry sentenced Thomas to life without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence on the second degree murder; and the maximum sentence of 50 years without benefit on the attempted second degree murder. The sentences are to run concurrent.
In January of 2020, Thomas shot and injured his ex-girlfriend, as well as shot her boyfriend who was later pronounced deceased.
Assistant District Attorneys Charles Robinson and Amariha Fort prosecuted the case for the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office.
