Gaugh Sentenced to 20 years for DWI-4th

Today, February 5th, Judge Michael Canaday sentenced Kayla S. Gaugh, 33, Lake Charles, to 20 years in prison without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence on one count of Operating While Intoxicated-4th Offense.

In 2021, Gaugh was driving a vehicle at a high-rate speed and crossed the center line on the road multiple times. Gaugh proceeded to fail the field sobriety test and had a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) level above the legal limit.

"Driving under the influence is a reckless and dangerous crime that puts innocent lives at risk. Our office takes DWI/DUI offenses very seriously and will prosecute offenders to the fullest extent of the law. There are no excuses for endangering the public, and we remain committed to holding those who make the decision to drive impaired accountable for their actions." said District Attorney Stephen Dwight.

Assistant District Attorneys Conrad Huber and Sydney Mayeaux prosecuted the case for the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office.
