Yesterday, April 10th, Dartanyan K. Breaux, 59, Lake Charles, was found
Guilty as Charged of Aggravated Rape.
In 1988, Breaux broke into the victim’s home through her bedroom window.
Once he entered the home, he brutally beat the victim and raped her. The rape kit that was taken from the victim in 1988 was retested in 2023 which resulted in a positive finding of seminal fluid
from Breaux.
“Thanks to advancements in DNA technology, justice has finally been
served in a case that has haunted a survivor for more than three decades. The successful prosecution of this cold case reinforces our unwavering commitment to seeking justice, no matter how much
time has passed. We are grateful that the victim now has the closure she so rightfully deserves, and that this predator is finally being held accountable for his heinous crimes.” said District
Attorney Stephen Dwight.
We would like to thank our partners at the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s
Office and the Southwest Louisiana Crime Lab for the great work they did in investigating this case.
Sentencing for Breaux will be May 2nd before Judge David Ritchie. Breaux
is facing a mandatory life sentence without the benefit of parole.
Deputy Chief of Litigation Taylor Alexander and Assistant District
Attorney Kadence Huber prosecuted the case for the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office.
